WHAT IS FITNESS?

Health professionals generally agree that there are four components of fitness:

  • Cardiorespiratory fitness is the heat’s ability to pump blood and deliver oxygen
    throughout the body.
  • Muscular fitness refers to the strength and endurance of your muscles.
  • Flexibility is the ability o move your joints through a range of motion
  • Body composition refers to the proportion of the body made up of lean body
    mass and body fat.

To support daily activities and confront unforeseen emergencies, it is beneficial to
meet the minimal standards of each fitness component.  At a minimum, the goals of a
fitness program is to achieve these levels and should include each fitness
components.

Mounting evidence suggests that regular physical activity is an effective, preventative
health measure that can lead to improved fitness and a variety of physical, social,
and mental health benefits, including:

  • Increased lean muscle, energy, bone density
  • Decreased blood pressure, heat rate, medical risks, body fat
  • Improved cardiorespiratory function, cholesterol levels, body composition
  • Reduced stress, depression, anxiety, and improved self-esteem

How do you start a fitness program?
Some people feel confident to design and track their own program while others feel
comfortable seeking professional fitness advice.  A certified personal trainer can
develop a comprehensive and individual program that can help reach each fitness
component.

and effectively reach your fitness goals.
